The 2026 Kawasaki Teryx5 H2 Deluxe eS ships with 250 horsepower, FOX 3.0 Live Valve electronic shocks, 33-inch Maxxis Carnivore Plus tires on beadlock wheels, and a 10-inch Garmin Tread touchscreen. For most enthusiasts, that is genuinely enough to ride hard for a full season without touching the build sheet. The question isn’t really whether to upgrade — it’s which few things actually matter.

Which Model to Buy

Three variants make up the H2 lineup. The base Teryx4 H2 opens at $37,199. The Teryx4 H2 Deluxe eS adds electronically controlled Live Valve suspension for $43,199. The Teryx5 H2 Deluxe eS — the five-passenger version — runs $43,699.

That $500 difference over the four-seat Deluxe buys you a third row and makes the Teryx5 the only five-seat performance side-by-side currently on the market. The rear seats are stadium-style, positioned 15mm higher than the fronts for better sight lines. If you need three passengers in the back, there is no direct competitor in this horsepower class. That alone makes the choice fairly simple.

What the Factory Actually Gives You

The supercharged 999cc inline-four is the headline. It produces 250 horsepower and 146.2 lb-ft of torque, peak power arriving at 9,000 RPM with a 9,500 RPM redline. Kawasaki developed the supercharger entirely in-house — not a shelf component sourced from elsewhere — and it’s the first factory-supercharged engine ever offered in a production UTV.

Suspension travel runs 23.2 inches up front and 24 inches in the rear. The Live Valve system on the Deluxe eS adjusts damping continuously across three modes: Soft, Normal, and Firm. At low speeds over rocks, Soft keeps the chassis from punishing rear passengers on rough moves. Firm tightens things up when you’re moving at pace on open terrain.

On the seat belt question specifically: the Teryx5 H2 Deluxe eS comes standard with 4-point retractable harnesses in the front — not the 3-point lap-and-shoulder setup you’d find in a commuter vehicle. That’s a genuine difference. Four-point harnesses reduce lateral movement during off-camber situations and keep you from sliding under load on hard side-slope work. They’re not a fixed racing harness — a dedicated 5-point system is still the right choice for serious competition rock work — but they’re a meaningful step above a basic automotive-style belt. For trail riding and family crawling at reasonable speeds, they perform well without requiring cage modifications or harness bar additions.

The Clutch Recall: What Happened and What the Fix Is

Every 2026 Teryx H2 shipped between July 2025 and January 2026 was subject to a stop-drive order. Roughly 3,585 units in total. The problem was a moveable drive converter sheave that could fracture under load, sending metal fragments into the clutch housing — a genuine impact hazard. Kawasaki documented 19 failures before issuing the recall. No injuries were reported.

The dealer repair covers three things: replacing the sheave assembly with a redesigned part, installing a reinforced clutch cover guard to contain any potential future debris, and reprogramming the ECU with updated software. All of it is done at no cost to owners.

If you’re looking at dealer inventory that sat through the stop-drive period, verify recall work is complete on any specific unit before you take delivery. Kawasaki’s recall verification line is 855-878-4217. The VIN is located on the right rear of the main frame beneath the rear fender. Dealers can confirm status immediately. New inventory arriving now should already carry the updated assembly, but it’s worth asking.

The issue was real hardware — a fracturing sheave is not a minor warranty item — but the redesigned part addresses the root cause, and the free repair doesn’t change the fundamental case for the machine.

What to Add First — and What to Hold Off On

Protection Before Performance

A skid plate package is the first thing that makes real sense for anyone running technical terrain. The supercharged engine is expensive to rebuild, and factory underbody coverage doesn’t assume you’ll be dragging over ledges regularly. Rock sliders and A-arm guards follow from there. Running a full passenger load adds weight, which means harder contact when you belly out or catch a swing arm on a ledge — more coverage is worth the cost early.

Lighting

Factory lighting covers daylight trail use. Add a quality LED light bar if you ride at night or in heavy dust. It’s inexpensive relative to the machine and most riders add it within the first few trips out.

What to Wait On

Performance suspension and engine tuning should sit on the shelf for at least a season. The factory Live Valve setup is well-developed for the H2 specifically. Aftermarket tunes that worked on naturally aspirated platforms don’t transfer cleanly to a supercharged application — ECU management and fueling behave differently, and the supercharger introduces variables most tuners are still mapping. The aftermarket will catch up. Spending on power mods in year one is jumping ahead of the available knowledge base.

How It Stacks Up Against the Can-Am Maverick R Max

The Maverick R Max makes 240 horsepower from a turbocharged three-cylinder and is a legitimately fast, capable machine. But it tops out at four seats — no five-passenger configuration exists in the lineup. If a third rear seat is non-negotiable, it’s out of the running.

Can-Am’s platform also sits low. That’s a deliberate engineering call that benefits high-speed stability and center of gravity. Over slow technical rocks it works against you — you lose the elevated seating position that helps you read a crawling line. If the low ride height in an X3 was a dealbreaker, the R Max will feel similar. It’s a different machine built for a different primary use case, and it shows on the rocks even though it shines on high-speed terrain.

Running the H2 Alongside a KRX 1000

The KRX 1000 and the Teryx5 H2 aren’t duplicates. The KRX suits slower, deliberate rock work where its power delivery and character are at home. The H2 handles faster terrain and more passengers. They fill different roles on the same trip, which is the best argument for keeping both.

One practical thing to check before assuming either machine fits a box trailer: measure the opening. Full-size five-seat performance UTVs run tall, and cage height on these machines can exceed standard trailer openings. Check the specific dimension against your trailer before buying. That’s a detail that’s easy to overlook and annoying to discover in the driveway on departure day.
